PVC Foam Manufacturing Tolerances

Thickness Tolerances:
  • Under .063" thickness:  ± 20% of specified thickness.
  • .063" to .125" thickness:  ± 15% of specified thickness.
  • Over .125" thickness: ± 10% of specified thickness.

Width Tolerance (Standard Tape Grade Logs):

  • Logs .250" thick and under:  Maximum loss is 2" from the invoiced width.
  • Logs .251" – .375" thick:  Maximum loss is 3" from the invoiced width.
  • Logs .376" – .500" thick:  Maximum loss is 4" from the invoiced width.
  • Logs .501" – .625" thick:  Maximum loss is 5" from the invoiced width.
  • Logs .626" – .750" thick:  Maximum loss is 6" from the invoiced width.
  • Logs .751" – .875" thick:  Maximum loss is 7" from the invoiced width.
  • Logs .876" –1.000" thick:  Maximum loss is 8" from the invoiced width.
  • Thickness laminations:  Divide thickness by 2 and refer to above chart to determine maximum loss.
  • Other laminations:  Add one inch loss to the above chart.

Width Tolerance (Cut Rolls):

  • Ordered width +/- .063" to 6" width/ordered width +/- .125" for widths over 6".

Footnotes:  Vinyl (PVC) Foam Tape Logs:

  • Logs are offered in maximum production widths on 3" diameter cores.
  • Master lengths of twice standard log lengths plus 2 ft. are available for sale at listed price per linear foot.  Longer lengths available by quotation.
  • Double sided logs are split and rewrapped at no additional charge to eliminate possible gapping in transit.
  • Thicknesses greater than those shown are available by laminating.
  • Special fire retardant formulations registered with Underwriters Laboratories (UL 94 & UL 723).  Specifications are available upon request.
  • Special colors available by quotation.
  • Other liners and release coatings are available to meet specific requirements.

Die-Cutting Applications:

.188" Thick and under:  We recommend specifying (at no extra cost) that extra silicone release (XR) be applied to the foam side of casting paper.  When ready to fabricate, unwrap outer lap of casting paper to expose foam around full circumference of roll.  XR ensures easy removal of casting paper from foam.

Over .188" thick:  We recommend transfer wrapping log.  This process entails removal of casting paper and application of release paper to the adhesive side.  If kiss cutting, we recommend transfer wrapping logs.  This process entails removal of the casting paper and application of release board to the adhesive side.
